SPECIAL EVENT
CELEBRATING PETE SEEGER: Song & Conversation
Pete Seeger, the iconic folksinger of the 20th century, died in 2014 at age 94. On May 3rd, 2020, a group of musicians who knew and loved Pete came together online to celebrate Pete’s 101st birthday and to talk about his enduring legacy.
In this video of their conversation, singers Pat Humphries and Sandy O of Emma's Revolution (in northern California), Reggie Harris (in upstate New York), Annie Patterson and Peter Blood (in western Massachusetts), and Billy Bragg (in southwest England) exchange stories about Pete and reflect on his impact on their own lives and careers.
During the video, each of our guests sings an original song by or about Pete:
“The Internationale” (with a separate link to Billy Bragg’s tape performance), “High Over the Hudson” (written and sung by Reggie Harris), “Sing People Sing” (written and sung by Emma's Revolution), and “Step by Step” (written by Pete Seeger, sung by Annie Patterson and Peter Blood).
CELEBRATING PETE SEEGER: SONG & CONVERSATION was produced by Polly Wells and Candida Paltiel, the creators of the documentary WE BEGAN TO SING and their latest release, IT HAPPENS WHEN WE SING.
