Five years after the release of WE BEGAN TO SING, a documentary about the influential songbooks Rise Up Singing and Rise Again, director Polly Wells reconnected with the songbooks’ creators, Annie Patterson and Peter Blood. In this conversation, Annie and Peter speak to how essential songs and singing are to anyone trying to resist the toxicity of our current politics, and why their late friend Pete Seeger and his legacy of hope continue to inspire them today.
